Month #5
The countdown to Joy of Quilts continues! Again, a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have helped our guild by donating your time to make items for the boutique at our show in January 2027. Your response has been incredibly appreciated. For April we will be signing out kits to make grocery tote bags out of two ½ yard coordinating fabrics. These totes have loops on the sides to hang the bag in the bagger rack, and another loop in the middle that can be used to hand the tote on the grocery cart. So clever!
I hope everyone got to see the first community strip pieced quilt during show & tell in March. Bret Adams did an amazing job piecing, quilting, and binding it; that quilt sparkles!! We are looking for a person, or a bee, to volunteer to piece, quilt, and bind one of the other quilts. We can help by providing batting if needed.
And a reminder to report your volunteer hours to Alice Clark, she has a clipboard at the meetings where you can report your hours.
I know that some of you are also making things on your own to donate for the Boutique: rope baskets, potholders, placemats, more bags, the ideas are endless. Your talents are very much appreciated. We are able to store items until the show in Jan 2027 if needed, so feel free to bring your contributions to the Guild meetings and get them out of your house if that helps. We welcome your lovely contributions! Note that, if all of your creations don’t sell at a fair price, we will happily return them to you so that you can give them as gifts or donate to another Guild that you may belong to. We do recognize the amount of effort that is put into beautiful handmade items.
Month 4
The countdown to Joy of Quilts continues! Again, a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have helped our guild by donating your time to make items for the boutique at our show in January. For March we will be signing out 24 kits to make fabric baskets which are approximately 5” square, made from four 10” blocks and two 10” squares of fusible fleece or other fairly sturdy one-sided fusible. If you have leftover layer cake squares we would love it if you make some extra baskets or donate the squares for someone else to use; its one big Guild effort and you are all amazing! It would be great to have some Valentine and Easter themed baskets too – I bet they would be big sellers.
I got a sneak peak at one of the string block community quilts and it literally sparkles with all of the colors! Bret Adams did a fantastic job piecing and quilting it. I suspect we’ll have the reveal soon at an upcoming meeting. And there are two more quilts in the works, one of which still needs volunteers to piece, quilt, and bind – perfect Guild volunteer project for a Bee, just let me know!

Month 3
The countdown to Joy of Quilts continues! Again, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took a bag of string blocks in December to sew together, that was 200 blocks!!! Each community auction quilt will have 100 blocks in it. The third quilt, also with 100 blocks, is currently being pieced and quilted by Janice Schindler. We appreciate you all Janice, Meg Guldner, Pam Murphree, Anna Gay, Cissa Kamakura, Teresa Andersen, Sandra Hennig, Bret Adams, Allison Taghari, Pam Tedesche, Debi Mishael, Betsy Willard, Elizabeth Fisher, Charlotte Betts, Ellie McMaster, Shari West, Ann Schaefer, Marsha Franty, Maryellen Robinson, Linda Stokes, and the Piecemakers Bee.
This month, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, and knowing that our Quilt Show is also right before Valentine’s Day, we signed out 31 kits to make 93 Swedish Hearts - adorable as decorations or treat bags. Some of the kits signed out on Friday were returned completed at the following Tuesday meeting! This Guild rocks!
Next month, hark all binding lovers! At the February meetings we will sign out kits for “flip flop floor mops”. As you might have guessed, the predominate activity will be sewing the binding (precut for you) around the edges. We will be making 24 of these.

Month #2
The countdown to Joy of Quilts continues! First, regarding our community string block auction quilts (remember we have blocks for three quilts!), a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took a bag of string blocks to sew, they were all signed out before the holiday party even got started! Please remember to bring them back to either of the January meetings. Next, we will need two volunteers, could be two Bees, to assemble the blocks together in a pleasing arrangement, with or without sashing, in prep for quilting. The third quilt is currently being assembled. Please contact me if you need more info.

Month #1 The countdown to Joy of Quilts is on! Every month the Boutique team will ask for help making specific items. We will share instructions for items to make, will prepare some kits for completion, and will collect any items that you want to make and donate to the Boutique. I know we have some amazing sewists and quilters in our Guild, and that many of you have your specialties (i.e. Anna Gay’s tea cozies). We welcome your lovely contributions! For December, we will be distributing string quilt blocks to have the strips sewn on. These strip quilts are “community quilts” as we invited the public to select strips for a block. People were so excited to contribute! (And we will invite them to watch the auction to see what “their” quilt sells for.) We developed the idea while volunteering in the QGGH booth at the Houston Center for Contemporary Crafts and then ran it full steam at the George Ranch days. We have enough blocks to make 2-1/2 quilts for auction at Joy of Quilts; the remaining half quilt will have additional block pieces assembled that will need to be sewn at a future date. We will also need the tops sandwiched and quilted, if you can help with that, please let me know.
