Wow ladies….I just totaled the hours….137! And a total of 27 sets of hands….Thank you for all your hard work…I hope you had fun!

It was a great opportunity to work on charity quilts, learn some quilting tips and get to know your fellow quilters!

Remember that the time and love you put in… brings countless hours of "comfort" to those who receive these beautiful quilts.

Thanks again for a wonderful day!!!! Many hands make light work.

Facts about Comforters

“Comforters” is an integral part of the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston.  The service that Comforters provides by making and donating quilts to various charitable organizations in the community satisfies the Guild’s directive to educate the public and helps maintain the guild’s tax exempt status.  While working within a budget designated by the guild, it is the generosity of members and friends that provides most of the materials used to make our quilts.

Comforters provides many ways for members to participate.  Several types of kits are available for checking  out at the morning and evening meetings:

  1. Precut fabric  and a pattern with instructions for completing a quilt top.
  2. Pieced quilt top with matching backing packaged with batting  - to be quilted.
  3. Quilts ready for binding.  Binding fabric is provided.
  4. Sandwiched quilt tops and backing – ready for tying.  Thread provided for tying.

Many members do their “own” thing.  Some take a kit for the top, and then use their own fabric and batting to complete the entire quilt.  Some donate a completed quilt without any of Comforters’ materials.

We also encourage members to make a birthday quilt.  This quilt can be made and donated to Comforters as a way of celebrating your own birthday or as a celebration of someone else’s birthday.

The December evening meeting is dedicated to tying Comforters quilts, but Comforters donates quilts all year long.  Last year we completed 480 quilts.  In previous years, we have completed in excess of 500 quilts.  Our goal for 2015 is to complete 500 quilts.

We donate to several organizations and encourage members to recommend organizations that would benefit from our quilts.  Our quilts are all sizes and are given to individuals of all ages and in varying situations.

Recipient Organizations
Quilts are donated throughout the year as they are completed. Last year we completed 400 quilts, but in previous years have completed as many as 500 quilts. We donate to several organizations and encourage members to recommend organizations that would benefit from our quilts. Our quilts are all sizes and are given to individuals of all ages and in varying situations.
